Rettig Hill 2017 Vidal Blanc
Ridley County, Indiana
During a 1996 trip to Australia, Jeff Hill discovered the wine growing areas of South Australia and the fine wines that are produced in that region. After returning to his hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jeff began making wine at home while attending several seminars conducted by Purdue University and studying hundreds of books on wine making and grape growing. In 2004, Jeff worked part time at two Indiana vineyards before purchasing his vineyard from the Sisters of St. Francis in 2005. At the time of the purchase, there was only a two acre vineyard that had been planted in 1996. In 2005 and 2006, Jeff added six additional acres of new vineyards. Since Ripley County, Indiana experienced droughts in 2007, 2008 and 2010, the new plantings took longer to mature and produce a commercial crop. Finally, Rettig Hill began commercial production in September 2010 after seven years of developing its vineyards and winery. We hope you enjoy the fine wines meticulously crafted by Rettig Hill Winery!
